Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a typical project take?▼
Most projects follow five stages over roughly eight weeks or more, depending on scope (see Our Process). Larger Enterprise Engineering and Business Systems engagements are scoped during discovery, and you get the timeline in writing before work begins.
What's the difference between Enterprise Engineering and Business Systems?▼
Enterprise Engineering is the design layer: we map how work moves through your business and define the architecture, integrations, and automation around it. Business Systems is the implementation layer: the CRM, payroll, inventory, production, and other systems your team uses daily, configured around that design. You can engage us for either one, or both.
Is your Business Systems work just a stock ERP install?▼
No. We map your workflow first, then configure and extend the platform to match it. Custom modules, workflows, and reports get built where the standard install doesn't fit how your business runs.
Do you work with clients globally?▼
Yes. We collaborate asynchronously and schedule video calls to suit your timezone. Distance has never stopped a great project.
What is your payment structure?▼
We work with a 50% deposit to begin and 50% on completion, with milestones agreed upfront. Retainers are billed monthly in advance. We accept bank transfer, card, and mobile money.
Do you offer post-launch support?▼
Yes. Every project includes a 30-day post-launch support window at no extra cost. After that, our retainer plans cover ongoing design, development, and SEO needs with a dedicated team member.
How much does a project cost?▼
It depends on scale, scope, and what you're migrating from, so we don't publish a flat rate. See How Pricing Works for what shapes the number, or fill out the Tell Us About Your Business form and we'll come back with an estimate, usually within 24 hours.
What do you need from me to get started?▼
A brief (we'll help you write one), a rough timeline, and a budget range. That's it for the first call. The more you can share, the more useful the discovery session will be, though we've started projects from a single paragraph.
Can I see examples of your work?▼
Yes, open the Portfolio or Case Studies from the desktop or dock, or ask us directly for references from recent engagements.
Do you work on fixed price or time and materials?▼
Most projects are fixed price against a clearly defined scope, agreed after you tell us about your business and we have had the discovery call. Larger or open-ended engagements may run time and materials for the discovery phase, then move to fixed for delivery. Retainers are a fixed monthly fee.
Do you work with businesses outside Nairobi?▼
Yes. We work with businesses across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda, in person where it helps and remotely otherwise. Distance hasn't stopped a project yet.
Can you connect a new system to what we already use, like Sage or QuickBooks?▼
Usually, yes. Most engagements start by mapping what you already run and only replacing what needs replacing. Where systems can be connected instead of swapped out, we connect them.
We don't have an in-house IT team. Can you still support us?▼
That's who we build for. Most of our clients don't have an internal IT team, which is why we stay involved after launch instead of handing you a system and disappearing.
What if nothing off-the-shelf fits how we work?▼
Then we build the piece that's missing. We extend existing platforms with custom modules first, and build a fully custom application only when that's the better fit.
