Production Tracking
Made-to-order manufacturer · Business SystemsThe brief
A made-to-order manufacturer tracked jobs on a whiteboard and by word of mouth. Customers asked where their orders were, and the only way to answer was to go and look. The goal was a production floor where the status of every job was visible.
How we approached it
1
Walk the floor
We followed jobs from order to dispatch and mapped each stage.
2
Define products and materials
We built bills of materials so each job could be checked against stock before it started.
3
Introduce work orders and job cards
We gave every job a written work order and recorded progress through job cards.
4
Cost the jobs
We captured material and labour against each job, so cost could be compared with price.
